“I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in August
1991. My rheumatoid arthritis characterized with stiffness
in my body, swelling and redness in my knees, elbows, wrists
and ankles, unable to open my mouth. My rheumatoid arthritis
was very aggressive, the pain did not let me walk more than
1 block, hold objects, turn door handles, or open jars. These
symptoms were constant for almost three years until my doctor
changed my treatment to methotrexate (a chemical used to treat
cancer), for twelve years I received a shot of 30ml weekly
with collateral symptoms of nausea, burning in my GI tract.
With this treatment only pain was not present, stiffness was
still present, the disease continued a process of inflammation
and deterioration of my joints.
In 2004 I tried acupuncture for the first time at Grant MacEwan
College Clinic. I learned I had other alternatives to improve
my health. I felt a great motivation and I started to read
books related to my disease, the ones that most influenced
me were “Healing With Whole Foods” by Paul Pitchford,
“Eat Your Arthritis Away” and a few books about
the use of antioxidants in diet. Understanding the nature
of the immune system disease was my starting process of healing.
The following supplements changed my life: curcuma, selenium,
barley green grasses, Vit C, fish oils. I avoid eating red
meats, dairy products and sources of wheat. Although I know
I still have my immune system problem, I feel great and can
do almost anything I like, and the best of all, I don’t
need drug therapy anymore. “ |
